トラック運転手と運送業者間の契約には、事前に週や月単位で輸送料を決めるcontact market とその時々の需要や供給によって輸送料がきまる spot market がある。トラック業界の8割はcontact marketで行われている。ここ数年の需要の増加によってspot market では輸送料が高騰している(contact marketは輸送料をすでに決めているいるので、料金をあげれない)。spot market の盛況ぶりにcontact market のトラックドライバがcontact market の契約を破棄して spot market に参入してきている。ただ、最近になってこの spot market rates が以前ほど良くないみたい。判断は分かれるけど、景気後退の兆候のサインとも捉られそう。というエピソード。

ちょっと手に取って見てみるときに このフレーズ使いますよね。

その3. in the past(過去に、これまで ), 

could .. (…する可能性がある、..かもしれない)

HIRSCH: It’s pretty slumpy. Yeah. And in the past, a slump in the spot market has been kind of like a red light flashing on the dash of the trucking industry and maybe even the economy at large, warning that a correction could be coming – or maybe even a recession.

伝えたいこと: 「これまで、これらの症状はアクシデントAと関連がありました。ほかの症状Bが出るかもしれません」

ビジネスにおいて断定的な表現でなく、今回のcouldのような婉曲的な表現必要な時ありますよね！

They come into the market(マーケットに参入する) 

TUCKER: They came into the market at the time when it was at its highest. And so if they’ve built their cost structure around the high rates and they haven’t built in the safety net for what happens when those rates come down, then they will be challenged.

伝えたいこと: 「まもなく新製品Aをリリースします。○○マーケットに参入のときです！」

ほかにもエピソードの中に「 Demetris first dipped his toe into the trucking market last year」という表現もありました。これもマーケットに参入した時の表現ですね(間接的な表現で伝わりにくそうですが。。)。
